GOED and SNP Form Joint Partnership
GOED, the Global Organization for EPA and DHA Omega-3s, and Sociedad Nacional de Pesquería (SNP) are pleased to announce that they have signed a joint partnership agreement, bringing together two important groups with an interest in marine-based businesses. The partnership acknowledges the key role the Peruvian anchovy fishery plays in the omega-3 industry, which is the core of GOED’s business activities.
Under terms of the agreement, 11 key Peruvian fishing companies – all members of SNP - will become members of GOED. GOED’s mission is to promote the consumption of EPA and DHA omega-3s around the world and the Peruvian anchovy fishery is of major importance to omega-3s. Peru is the largest fishery supplying omega-3 fish oils to the global dietary supplement industry, which is a US$780 million business.
Ellen Schutt, Executive Director of GOED, commented, “Having the backing of Peruvian fishing companies is very important to GOED. Both GOED and SNP are focused on supporting the Peruvian anchovy business and we believe our common commitment, which brought this partnership to life, will help grow the category overall.”
Cayetana Aljovin, SNP President, said, “Peru is poised to become a leader in the production of omega 3 in the world, thanks to the diversity of hydrobiological products offered by its sea. The alliance with GOED will allow us to achieve that goal. We are committed to the well-being of Peru and the world.”
About SNP: SNP represents the world’s leading fishery and is committed to sustainability and society and is responsible for leading the development and regulation of the fishing and aquaculture industry. Peru is the world's largest producer of fish oil for the global human EPA and DHA omega-3 market, which was valued in 2019 at US$1.4bn at the ingredients supply chain level, and US$44.2bn in consumer products.
